The Apple Store Lady Laughed at My Pain.

(ASL: Apple Store Lady)
“Wow…If we’ll be lucky if your data can be retrieved before this thing dies.”
Me:“Whimper”
ASL: “When’s the last time you backed up”
Me: “Groan”
ASL: “I think it’s time you got a grown up’s computer. Marty here can tell you more about the latest IMac.”
Marty:“ForalimitedtimeyougetafreeNanowithpurchaseofalaptopordesktopwiththeEducationalDiscountwithabonussavingsonyourwarrentyplanareyoulookingformodularordesktop?”
Me: “Buh?”

So that is it. Ole’ EMac has sung her swan song. Happily all of my data was retrieved on blessed back up hardrive but I am sans computer. You know when the best time to buy a new computer is? Not while moving.

Beloved Husband is posting this message for me from his new office. More info later.

In Gregory Hall there was a tradition that when something like that died, there were two acceptable means of disposing of the object. If it served you well, and died an honorable death, it deserved a proper Viking funeral, being taken to a parking lot and set on fire. Dirges, if known, are appreciated. If, however, it was a piece of shit and gave you nothing but trouble, then it had to be beaten to death -- bats, golf clubs, and the like.

Legend has it that in the field between Gregory and other dorm whose name I forget, one can still come upon the random "T" or "2" button from a certain former resident's old word processor.

I was present at the glorious Viking burial of an old and noble alarm clock; tragically, the ceremony was cut short by the arrival of a tubby CSO man with a fire extinguisher. I like to think, however, that that old alarm clock is shining brightly on Thor's nightstand up there in Valhalla.

Kevin,

I think that I may have started that one. I can't be sure, but I think you might have been there... (insert wavy flashback lines)

For a few years, I had been using a stand alone word processor/ typewriter from the late '80's to write my papers. It could save text documents and print them out on the type writer when you were done.

It had been acting quite buggy for a while - big suprise - and the day my annotated bibliography was due, it completely disappeared.

The next weekend, we sentenced it to death, we took it between the two dorms and "Office Spaced" it into oblivian.

That didn't help my bibliography though.

A riveting story, I know.

cuhhx - say it slowly and it sounds dirty

Ok so I have been neglecting your page and I didnt know about your recent loss because you havent answered my "hows it going" comments...gee now I know why.
Anyway, here is a hug and a offer to help. I happen to not only speak geek in way of the computer, but I have a friend that works at the Apple Store. If there is info you need or want on what to do next please dont hesitate to ask!! I can find out if I can do something like get a computer at cost or at least at a discount!

I do feel your pain, at least it was just your computer and not your car! I had that wonderful misfortune just last week.

Hope the move is going well and I will talk to you soon!

xoxo
