Folks who don't know the backstory of that joke would think I was referring to Alice as the "star".
Conversely they would also think that you (Brad) were a dillweed for insulting the kid.
Given all the long complex background information I'm sure they would apologize for misjudging you.
Then you would say, "That was a good story".
